Data Analytics Web App Overhaul

When millions of dollars are on the line, data integrity isn't just a feature—it's the entire foundation. I revamped an internal analytics web app for a large organization, providing their data scientists and economists with the precise, reliable data needed to confidently prioritize and distribute high-value resources.

Project Overview
Partnered with a major foreign aid organization to transform a cumbersome, manual data-gathering process into an intuitive web application. By streamlining the user experience, this project successfully reduced data processing and training time from five days to just one hour.

The Challenge
The organization’s legacy data workflow was slow and high-friction, creating bottlenecks for users. Additionally, because our product team was newly formed, we needed to establish internal alignment and trust while quickly identifying exactly where the old workflow was breaking down.

The Approach & Solution
Uncovering User Friction: Conducted one-on-one interviews and observed users interacting with the legacy system. I translated these insights into storyboards and empathy maps to give the developers and product owner a clear, shared context of our users' primary pain points.

Designing for Trust & Clarity: Replaced the complex legacy process with a simple, four-step workflow equipped with a clear progress indicator. To build institutional trust, I designed a final "summary of changes" step, which users explicitly noted gave them significantly higher confidence in their data.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitated pre-sprint design reviews using wireframes to bridge the gap between user needs and technical feasibility. This collaborative approach allowed our new team to catch development and usability issues early, ensuring smooth alignment before finalizing the visual designs.
